Hailing from Hong Kong, Womenswear student Betsy Leung is a social media recluse, perhaps even a ‘best-kept secret’. Her career in the fashion world began as a lingerie pattern cutter, before assisting at fashion houses such as Loewe and Simone Rocha. Throughout these experiences, Leung’s design philosophy has remained the same: to create well-crafted pieces that will stand the test of time. The most important aspect of Leung’s work is pretty simple. ‘Pockets,’ she rationalises, ‘we need more pockets.’ For her graduate collection, Leung seeks to lift our spirits with a humorous reimagining of old school hip-hop. Taking style cues from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, think clashing patterns, tactile plastic two-pieces and wildly misshapen accessories.
