In September 2016, at the age of 21, designer Laura Tanzer had already spent over a year working for the then startup company, Vetements, when she enrolled onto BA Fashion Design with Marketing. Now aged 25, the soon-to-be graduate from Zurich resides by Highbury Fields where she has been making her final collection. Titled Piece of You, each stitch is an ode to those that inspire her. Tanzer asked 100 friends and fellow creatives to donate an item of clothing towards the collection. ‘I wanted to make a collection that came from the people that made me who I am,’ she says. Using upcycling and deadstock materials, she produced seven pieces without buying anything other than thread and fusing, in an act that she calls, ‘making sustainability desirable.’ After interning at design agency, 2x4, Tanzer hopes to pursue her interests, eventually setting up an agency herself.
