24 year old Roman Pellegrino traces his initial interest in clothing back to a father with an ‘eccentric taste’ for European fashion and days spent in the skatepark. The former Marine Serre intern headed from his hometown Boston, over New York City, to London for Central Saint Martins’ Fashion Folio Course and eventually the BA Menswear pathway.

As Pellegrino usually takes inspiration from outside the bounds of fashion, installations by French artist Pierre Huyghe and Sci-Fi novels such as the Strugatskys’ Roadside Picnic, are at the core of his graduate showcase that explores the potential of technology, replication and mutation. Keeping to a post-apocalyptic theme, Pellegrino’s skilful designs with a clear focus on pattern innovation, play into the narrative of a fictitious lab team falling victim to nature’s forces. Besides debuting a partnership with Eva & Carola’s Circular Knit Studio, a first for Pellegrino, the majority of materials were sustainably sourced as off-cuts from multiple suppliers. Industrial textiles, like Imbotex Insulation and Tyvek, weave together the designer’s fantasy as he uniquely envisions ‘an environment and setting’ for his collections. Preoccupied with his degree for the past few years, Pellegrino has recently discovered a joy in cycling – one he shares with his father.
