Print and Textile designer Konstantinos Damis’ vivacious character and outlook on life is undeniably mirrored in his colourful, conceptual creations. A former Giles Deacon intern, the designer – who has roots in Athens – first moved to London for a foundation degree at Central Saint Martin’s in 2016.

In an effort to ‘understand what has shaped my visuals,’ Damis discovered in his family ‘another person before me doing textiles!’ In the midst of an expansive archive in his childhood home, the creative embraced his grandmother’s Corinthian crochet, incorporating the technique into his final showcase. With a juvenile naivety at the core, Damis built five looks on prints with his childhood drawings and layered hand-painted lace work; an intrinsic material in Greek culture and recurring theme in his designs. Visually the garments pick up Damis’ ‘painter’s perspective’ with surrealist trompe l’oeil and are neither womenswear nor menswear. Behind them lies the designer’s inciting fashion moment, dating back to a Warhol print of Jackie O and his motto of ‘having fun with your work.’

Once graduated, Damis plans to add two looks to his collection and gain work experience. Might cigarettes fail to deliver him relaxation, ‘listening to Fran Lebovitz complain about everything’ never does.
